I used to work at Norit maintenance
with the aid of computers at Norit (yes, the same one from those black
pills, nowadays capsules). Norit is a company that makes activated carbon
from peat. This is mixed and pressed into grains. It's often used in filter installations for drinking-water, wastewater, sugar-refining, gas suction, but also in
gasmasks, drop (licorice), inlay soles and kitchen-ventilation. To help
us keeping track of maintenance we used COMAC EASE. EASE stands for Event
Activated Servicing of Equipment.
As of May 1996 that is history.
I was, after 15 years working for Norit, employed by Akzo Nobel Information
Services. I will try to put my experience of Computer Aided Maintenance
to good use in assisting other companies to implement the COMAC EASE application.
Things got a bit confusing
when Akzo decided to sell their COMAC business to Gilde Main as of july
1996. Gilde is a small company dedicated to find the best solutions. COMAC fitted that profile well. I transferred to Gilde by November 1, 1996. Plans
include marketing of Mark 10, the successor of COMAC EASE. We will also
move to new locations by February 1997.
Since then, a lot has happened. The COMAC company was voluntarily liquidated and sold to a Belgian firm. They decided not to continue the contacts with Gilde
Luckily we had the opportunity to continue with a Dutch product called McMain. With it's strong four points, it's at least as good and at some place better than the products of our competitors.
